Colonel’s (Wife) Blog, Earthdate 2024-10-18
Hey Y’all! Happy Friday! It’s Shelley here, the Colonel’s wife, taking over the blog today while Rich is out busy farming, and well…I’m not, so it’s time for me to take over a bit of the inside jobs. Today’s pictures are of… well, the “mistress” as I have fondly referred to her for nearly 30 years, or as he says the Mighty Mighty F-15E Strike Eagle that is obviously flying really really fast cause it's super blurry in the back ground, and look at ALL that moisture coming off of the wings! I think that means it was kinda wet in the sky, LOL! The cutest piglet pile ever! The beef cows chomping on winter hay in OCTOBER, one of our pastures covered in the “first frost of the season”, and one hella pile of peppers that Rich rescued just before the cold got here. Now to figure what to do with that pile!! The weather has been bone dry, and we’re still waiting on some much-needed rain. We just had our first frost of the season, with temperatures dipping below freezing this week. The frost knocked out the garden, but don’t worry—we managed a final Fall garden harvest, and we’ve got it all on recorded for Sunday’s YouTube video.
The rest of the farm is thriving despite the cold. Our piglets are as cute as ever, piling up in the round hay bale Rich set out earlier this week. It’s their little nest, and they love it! The hay makes a warm, inexpensive shelter for the mommas and babies. Griz, our newest Jersey calf, is growing strong and doing wonderfully. It’s so exciting watching him grow up!
Now, onto my leg update: I had my appointment with the orthopedic surgeon, and surgery is scheduled for November 8th. I’m in the “prehab” stage right now, working on reducing swelling and increasing my range of motion. Patience is definitely not my strong suit, but I’m doing my best to stay positive and focused on recovery.
The most exciting news around here is that our daughter Rebekah is now the full-time Air2Ground Meats store manager! A few months ago, we arranged for her to leave Walmart and join us full-time on the farm and at the store. It couldn’t have been better timing, as my injury happened just days before her final day at Walmart. Having her with us full-time has been a huge blessing. We look forward to watching her take charge and blossom into one heck of a business owner. Oh, she is also the full time dairy farmer! When she first moved here she was a bit afraid the cows, now she can handle them like a PRO! Couldn’t be more proud!
The Air2Ground enterprise continues to grow, and we’re so thankful for all of your support! Stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to catch Sunday’s YouTube video for the Fall Garden harvest!
Cheers,
Shelley and Rich (Psycho)
