Colonel’s Blog, Earthdate 15 July 2023…
Hey Y’all!
Good evening and happy Saturday from Air2Ground Farms! It was warm today at the market, but there was a breeze so it wasn’t that bad under the tent in the shade. We had a good market day and chatted with lots of cool folks. We sold 15 chickens! Not going to last long at this rate. We had ham steaks on sale today and quite a few folks took us up on the offer. The animals are all doing well. We will move the beef chicks out of the brooder tomorrow morning when the temps are cooler. We have to load a steer and 3 lambs tomorrow evening for their trip to the processor early Monday morning. That means tomorrow evening is going to be quite busy. We’ve got to move the sheep through the pens to separate out the three we want to take, get them loaded and then out of the way. Then we will run the cows through the pens to separate out the steer, move the rest of the herd, and then load the steer. We don’t want to put them onto the trailer too early since it is going to be so hot, but we can’t wait until it gets dark. Our plan is to wait until about 6:00 pm and try to get it all finished in an hour and a half or so. The forecast is for really hot temps by mid-week next week so we will probably do some mowing in the air conditioner on the tractor. The pics today are us at the market this morning and the pigs enjoying their breakfast.
We published a YouTube video yesterday. We filmed it about 6 weeks ago and haven’t had a lot of time to edit. As we continue to learn about the entire YouTube phenomenon we try to improve each time we publish a new video. This time we used 3 different cameras with planned supporting shots, or B-roll. We had cameras on different angles to provide different perspectives. We wanted fades, transitions, music…you get the picture. We were really excited when we got all of the footage and also completed all we had to do that day. Then reality hit. One of the cameras’ audio didn’t work which meant it was very difficult to sync the video from that camera with the audio from a different camera during editing. One of the cameras’ video was in the wrong aspect ratio which meant all of its video had to be clipped and zoomed to make it fit. We’re trying to edit using a free software that is good but not great. All that to say we’ve been sitting on the editing process for weeks. We finally decided to edit it as well as we could and put it up. We didn’t want to waste all of the effort by just trashing the whole thing. I think what we learned from this little escapade is that we aren’t professional video editors, we don’t have entire camera crews with professional equipment, and we have limits on what we have time to accomplish during our day. We decided that in future attempts at videos we will stick to one camera per shot and stop trying to be MGM. Check it out and let us know what you think!
