Hey Y’all!
Good morning and happy Fast-Jet Friday!! The fast jets today are the Mighty-Mighty F-15E Strike Eagle. I am in a bit of a mood today and decided to showcase the carrying capacity of the workhorse with different load outs. Maybe the Houthis should take a look… The weather forecast seems to be holding true. During morning rounds this morning, the rain turned to sleet and then to snow as the temps began dropping from the mid 40s to the mid 20s in a matter of a few minutes. The two snow pics are of the cows and sheep enjoying breakfast in the blowing snow. The top pic is Tozer yesterday lazily enjoying the sunshine. It was almost like he knew he should bask in the sun because it was about to be cold. We’ve spent the past couple of days preparing for the extreme cold. In no particular order, things we had to do: fill gas/diesel cans (30 gallons of gas & 20 gallons of diesel), buy 6 bales straw, buy 4 bags dog food, move house into duck yard and fill with straw, add straw to 3 chick-shaws, add straw to sheep shelters, put straw in pig hut, give beef herd access to trees, fill all waterers, fill up trucks/Jeep with fuel, fill 20x gallon jugs of drinking water, fill 4x 5 gallon buckets with water for flushing toilets, put generators into garage, move fermenting feed into garage, turn on well pump house heater, disconnect hoses, move firewood onto porch, replace serpentine belt on truck, fix 3 waterers, and hook 100 pound LP tanks onto rvs. We still have to blow the water out of the lines of Rebekah’s RV before the real cold gets here Sunday. It’s been a busy few days! The animals are all doing well. They all have their winter coats and should be just fine in the upcoming cold temps. Along with the winter storm prep, we put up a couple of YouTube videos. In Thursday’s podcast we discussed reasons why it may seem that keto isn’t working as well as it did a few years ago. In today’s video, we take a look in our fridge and cook a quick chicken curry dinner. I’ll leave links below!
I recently read a very interesting research study regarding the non-metabolic benefits of ketones. A few different times, I’ve written about the benefits of the ketogenic diet, ketogenesis, and even ketones themselves. Nevertheless, I normally discussed these in relation to their effects on metabolism. A recent study summarized some interesting research that has gone on over the past decade or so and discussed other benefits of ketones. Quoting the abstract, “…dietary manipulations like caloric restriction or ketogenic diet feeding are associated with lowered inflammation, improved health outcomes, and improved host defense against infection…”. The focus of this review was the increased immune responses due to ketones. In some immune cells, just the presence of ketones increased their effectiveness. In other immune cells, it seemed the actual state of being in ketosis, with it’s increase in fatty acids as well as ketone bodies, caused the increased effectiveness. This differentiation is important because in the first case, it is possible to just drink ketones in order to increase their presence in the bloodstream. In the second case, the state of ketosis due to fasting or a very low carbohydrate diet is required. In both cases, I’m ‘all-in’ for helping my immune cells! In one instance, the reduced inflammation in the lungs was specifically beneficial in helping fend off respiratory illnesses. GO KETO!!
